Llanpumsaint's nearest pub is the Railways Arms, within walking distance from the mill, it is a small friendly pub that serves food, booking a table is recommended, call 01267 253643. Also serving good food each evening is the Hollybrook Inn, Bronwydd. There are many other friendly pubs in the surrounding villages and in central Carmarthen.

There is a convenience shop two miles away, with a post office and garage, open till 7.30pm Many local towns offer a range of good shops. Carmarthen is a 15-minute drive away and has the usual supermarkets and department stores, but also has a market selling local produce, including an award-winning cheese-maker, and an excellent butchers and fishmongers.

There is a farmers' market on the first Friday
of the month. There are also art galleries, restaurants and local shops in its old streets, and a ruined medieval castle above the town.

There are also smaller towns like Llandeilo, a shopping hot spot with its fashionable galleries and boutiques and Newcastle Emlyn, historic town with shops, inns and another ruined castle overlooking the Teifi.
